I've been wanting to make a thread about this for awhile. Some members either don't know how to review or correct lyrics and some think they know, but in the end are doing it wrong.

Let's start with Artists.

Members and nonmembers can submit artists if they cannot seem to find the artist available on LSI already. Most people have no problems at all submitting a new artist, the only problem is with the members that review them. I am constantly seeing existing artists being added again, or artists that are totally made up, being added. So, here's what you do.

First, it helps out a lot when the person submitting the artist leaves a comment. Most people will leave a link to either their website, or maybe their myspace profile. Anything like that is very helpful. If no comment is given, it's easy to google the "artist" to see if they even exist. Next, type the artist in the search bar at the top to see if they are already on the site. (It's easier to do this if you have another window open, that way you can review and search at the same time). Some people, for some odd reason, like to add artists that are already here, maybe because the artist has a moderator already and they really want to moderate it themselves, or, because maybe they are unsure how to add lyrics, or because the lyrics are so messed up, they want to start fresh, who really knows? Or perhaps some people just don't search for the artist at all.

I see a lot of duplicate artists, it's very easy to review, I don't see why anyone should just click "yes" and pass everything without even taking a real quick look around.

Next, New Lyrics & Corrected Lyrics.

It's always good to search in the top bar to see if the lyrics already exist, some people would rather submit the entire new lyrics instead of correcting them. Make sure the title and lyrics have good punctuation. But there's no reason to be picky, slightly sloppy lyrics are better than no lyrics at all.

I find most of the problems with reviewing lyrics to be the "corrected" one's. Ray has added a wonderful feature, the yellow and red corrected lines. I love this, and it definitely makes reviewing a lot easier. Look over the lyrics quickly and see what has been corrected, if there are no yellow or red lines, no corrections have been made, and there is no reason to say "yes", I see this happen a lot. Also, make sure to look at the comments that the corrector leaves, if they say something about the title being incorrect and that the song itself is fine, there were still no corrections made, mainly because you can't correct titles to songs, I still don't understand why, but only the moderator of an artist can correct the title.

Now, I'd like to talk a little bit about page stretches! All of those who review songs know what I'm talking about. New lyrics should not have page stretching, if it does, you should definitely not pass it. But with corrected lyrics, the page was already stretched before the corrections were made, so there's no reason to not pass it. If you don't want to pass it, I can understand, I guess, because it looks bad. But the page stretched lyrics are already in the LSI archive, so it's better to have correct song lyrics that stretch the page, rather than messed up lyrics stretching the page. If that makes any sense at all.

Lastly, it's also good for you to leave comments. If you don't pass certain lyrics, tell us why, it helps the rest of the reviewers, and all you reviewers should look at those comments, don't just hit yes to everything or no to everything, which I've seen quite a few times.

I would love comments or questions, I wrote this fairly quickly, so I might have left some things out.

I was going to PM Ray about making things clearer, since so many people suck at reviews

but I suppose this works just as well, assuming that those who submit corrections will see it first?

I might PM this thread to Ray, I'd like him to read it and have him add some things, I might be missing some stuff. I'd like him to make a link to this thread somewhere so people can learn how to review, some people have no idea what they're doing.

You make alot of good points in there.

There's similar problems in the other categories

New Video's: People submitting video's with unallowed embedding. Meaning the video's will not play on Lsi.
But people still click OK, and say like "well it still works as a link"
I don't agree with that. If the video wont play, DONT ADD IT. that annoys me.

Corrected Video's: People submit corrections without actually changing the video. These should be marked as "Video does not work" as there is no better option.

Artist News: Not normally that many problems here, apart from people that submit news to artists that isnt actulaly news. I've seen a few times where newbies have used it to try and.. ask for things about the band, ask wether other news that have heard is true. but well there's always going to be idiots.

New Movies: Apart from the normal submitting movies that are already in the archive, alot of people forget about having to add the year too. and i see alot of entries that are submitted without a year, and people still go through and click OK. Try actually looking at what you're reviewing please.

my thinking in doing that is that those vids are from the actual owners of the music video, who don't want it embedded, so in addition to working as a link, its the most legal way to have the video on here

can the mods card people for being idiots about the reviews?

there's a group of 3 or 4 people who just go through and mark everything as "incorrect layout" or whatever for every single song

I would say that deems carding/banning

Yeah, we can, I never even thought of doing that, but I know people that are retarded and say no to everything because it's funny I guess.

Good thread!

The only thing I can think of adding is that for the page stretched lyrics, make sure you check what is stretching the page. Sometimes it's the comments people leave that cause the stretch, in that case the lyrics are fine.

Do you think maybe we could have a review process thing where we delete bands/lyrics? That are like duplicates?

I don't know, just a suggestion.

Is it just my Mozilla/Firefox browser, or do the red and yellow correction lines really not show up? I've noticed certain people thinking that there are no corrections to songs, when the yellow and red lines are clearly present, I'm not sure if they are using the Firefox browser or not, or if they're just stupid and don't exactly know what the yellow/red lines are for.

But, when I open Mozilla I don't see the colored lines, so, maybe something to fix Ray? Please? Because it only takes one person to say 'no' on a correction, and it sits in the queue for literally weeks since it needs more 'yes' votes to pass through, just annoying is all.

Anyone else think there should be a way to correct a song title? Right now there isn't, but we get a lot of corrections in where people say the lyrics are fine, but the title just needs to be corrected, and the only way to do this is to be the moderator, but not all artists have a mod.
