| i notice a lot of familiar shows like tough crowd discussed this debate, and my class has gone through this debate ...... eh, i cant count that high. anyway, i see both sides of the freaking debate.
to leave it as is: i dont see why anyone should get racked up about it! if you dont like it, dont look at it! dont say it! and although you have to recite the pledge of allegience to the flag when becoming a US citizen, you can just say it and not really go for it. and one other thing, when they say 'god' they mean supreme being, not necessarily the christain god.
to change it: it was added on to the pledge of allegience later, whats wrong with taking it off? and think of the atheists, they are descriminated and offended everytime the pledge of allegience is recited! and how would christians feel if it was "one nation under torah" or something like that?

| Ouch, ok, whatever, sorry for saying what I think, next time I'll keep quiet as obviously only some people can say what they want. All I'm saying is that if you don't believe in something then do you really want some other person preaching to you about their religion, saying that god is the only way and that you need to accept him? That's just stupid. Sorry if I didn't express is as eloquently as lucky bob, she's just the whole of 8 years old than me, with more and (what I'm sure is) better education. And you are not me (or is it I?) and I am not you and I do not feel embarrassed (2 r's) in any way, shape or form. I literally cannot believe you said that, how racist and discrimative can one person be?! 'f**k them' because they believe in 'Allah and shit' - what?! Are Muslims supposed to be inferior to Christians or something? Not the last time I checked. I can't believe only one person commented on that post - if I'd said something along those lines about the christian god (whose existence isn't any more plausible than that of Allah) I probably would have ended up being stripped of my moderator status or banned.
I was almost tempted to delete your post, I'm an atheist and I still find it highly offensive and angering, but I think I'll leave it there as an example of what true ignorance is, and that it will not be tolerated.

| there arent any god and any nation under it.
nations use the name of god coz they know the christians (and there are lots of chritians around the world) will support them to do what they want then they elect themselves as the messengers of god and will take to all nation release and truth specially if those nation have oil or something else of their interests.

| I find attacking any one else's beliefs extremely offensive. I totally do not agree with a lot of other people's religions, but I try my best to love all people...and I'm human so sometimes (*ahem* okay a lot) I can be sort of a jerk, but I truly think that I have real respect for all religions, because a person's beliefs are so dear to their hearts. So anyway...yea...not to say I'd never try to change a person's beliefs, but I would never just say "hey guess what you're wrong and I'm right and you suck." I try to just be a good person and show people how much joy I have in my life and hopefully somewhere along the line they're gonna ask "hey, what makes you how you are?" and then I share...and I just hope that I can evangelize due to how I live my life.
And bashing on someone's heart beliefs is like, the worst way to evangelize.
Ha ha okay so that makes me sound stuck up...I don't believe that I'm better than anyone cuz of what I believe, I just believed I have recieved so much grace to be able to have this faith that just enriches my life and gives me so much hope...I wish the best for all of you.
Does any of that make sense?
As far as the "one nation, under God" I'd like to see the "under God" part left in there, but if it's not left in there, it's not the end of the world. I believe that God's existence is not dependent on anyone's aknowledgement of it. I will always think "under God" and I'd love to be able to say it, but you know, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

The concept "nation under God" reminds me of absolute monarchies, where the king claims to be the descend of God in that country and that the country is superior to all the others because of it...
well, every country in the 17th cnetury was absloutistic, so there isn't much of superiorism about it! lol
but then liberalism came, and whiped that all away, right...
but at the moment, the country most acting absolutistic is that one that claims to be the most liberal...

| i think that it should be left as the same because if any halfway smart person would realize that this country was found upon christianity...in europe protestants were being persecuted by the catholic church so they came to america so that they could worship the way they felt. I believe when the constitution says that we have the freedom of religion that they meant within christianity because that was the only religion they knew and they were being persecuted because they didnt think that the Sale of Indulgences(the purchase of salvation from the catholic church) was right. | | 0 @ 09-10-2003 00:54 Dekar |
