i notice a lot of familiar shows like tough crowd discussed this debate, and my class has gone through this debate ...... eh, i cant count that high. anyway, i see both sides of the freaking debate.

to leave it as is: i dont see why anyone should get racked up about it! if you dont like it, dont look at it! dont say it! and although you have to recite the pledge of allegience to the flag when becoming a US citizen, you can just say it and not really go for it. and one other thing, when they say 'god' they mean supreme being, not necessarily the christain god.

to change it: it was added on to the pledge of allegience later, whats wrong with taking it off? and think of the atheists, they are descriminated and offended everytime the pledge of allegience is recited! and how would christians feel if it was "one nation under torah" or something like that?

soo.....

what side of the debat are you on?

keep it. you dont need to say it if you dont want to, and its not actually praying to god... just a phrase. and i think the guy who made such a big deal about it just wanted attention.

Jk, but if they keep all pissy about it, they shouldnt, people moved to america originally so they could practice their own religion. Plus, they should just ignore it. haha I like that one

there is nothing wrong with saying "under god" like previously said, this country was founded under god, but anyways, it doesn't mean a certain god, just god, the supreme and no matter what religion you are (other than atheist and maybe a couple others) you believe in one supreme god. and athiest's dont have a reason to complain, the word means nothing to them so how is it any skin off their noses? its not discrimination, dont wanna say it? dont say it

um they do mean the Christian God. Thats what the country was based on. Don't like it then leave. Don't take away our right to say they pledge and who to honor. You dont like it then just dont say it. Thats life.

the country wasn't based on a god, the country was based on the freedom to practice whatever religion you chose

Rass what planet are you from? Where have you been? It was too based on God. Look at the pledge, trust in god on the dollar, and in court you swear on a Bible. A Christian Bible. Christianity doesnt say to harass others who believe differently so allowing others to be different is still the Christian way.

yeah but it doesn't matter becuase they aren't going to change it, if you think about it there really has never been a separation of church and state completely

i dont want them to change it. to change it would go against what america stands for. to not allow us to say it will be taking away our freedom of speech

saying the pledge is about respect -.- thats why people get worked up over it, by refusing to say the pledge you are refusing to show the USA respect which you owe it for living here

it's words
only goddamn words

just don't say those two words if it really bothers you
i still think people are getting worked up over nothing
try getting worked up over something more substantial

so many things in the USA are founded on the belief of Christianity that it's hard to keep up. if you don't like the words, do not say them.
