The gunman responsible for at least the second of the two Virginia Tech attacks that claimed 33 lives to become the deadliest shooting rampage in U.S. history has been identified as Cho Seung-Hui, a campus student in the United States on a permanent resident visa.

Cho, the shooter was a resident of Centerville, Va with his family, but lived on campus at VT. There were two shootings on campus, both weapons found on Cho were used in both shootings so authories are assuming right now that he was the only shooter, but that he might have had help from others.

The Chicago Tribune reported that the note included a rambling list of grievances that railed against "rich kids," "debauchery" and "deceitful charlatans" on campus. The paper also reported that Cho died with the words "Ismail Ax" in red ink on the inside of one of his arms.

Quoting an "investigative source," the newspaper said Cho had shown recent signs of violent, aberrant behavior, including setting a fire in a dorm room and allegedly stalking some women, and that he was taking medication for depression. The Tribune also reported that Cho's family runs a dry cleaning business and he has a sister who atatended Princeton University. Cho and his family came to the United States in 1992, when he was 8 years old.

Cho was found amoung the student's he slain, believed to have ended his own life by shooting himself in the head. A list of the victims.

this is insane... there could be around 20 people dead right now? This uni had bomb threats called in recently.. do you think they aren't taking these threats seriously enough?

It's been a bad month, April always seems to be.. it's not even made it to the 20th. There was a kid with a bomb at my old highschool last week... and now this.

Evidently he shot a teacher, he's lined up some of the kids and shot them exacution style.. and he was actually searching for his girlfriend? This following that other guy that shot his girlfriend then tried to kill himself at the CNN building in ATL... a couple of weeks ago.

=( what's the world coming to? why are all of the warning signs being ignored?

there was a quote in a local news article I read the other day which is completely true :
"Look at the case studies, including Columbine. We find out time after time that a certain number of students knew something wasn't right before something ever happened."

something should seriously be done about this.

How could this happen? How could one person kill 32 people? Didn't anyone try to stop him. What twisted logic of his could justify killing so many innocent people? Ending 32 lives...

The sad truth is
Things in this world, the things we can change, made him what he is. So try to do whatever you can to change things for the better.

I haven't read the whole thread, but honestly VT did not handle the situtaion well at all. So they sent a few emails and didn't cancel classes at all after the first shooting. Honestly what were they thinking. I barely ever check my email before class. At my university we have pta systems in each building and outside. Everyone would have been notified a whole lot better if they had our system. Also how could they not cancel classes? Oh it was just an isolated incident...yeah that really turned out to be true. I know that if this happened at my school and they notified the students that there was a shooting in the dorms...i would have gotten in my car and gotten the hell off of campus. It's a shame that a lot of deaths could have been prevented had they of canceled classes and notified the students better.

30 or some odd deaths. This kid had enough time to go back to his dorm, reload and leave a note. He should have never made it out of the first dorm room he visited. Those kids shouldn't have been in those class rooms two hours later. They shouldn't have found out about the shootings 2 hours after they happened.

That's exactly what we were talking about in class today.

Last year our school went under a Code Red Lockdown because someone had robbed a house or something nearby and they arrested the person on our campus, and it took the 5 minutes to do it.

they say it was an open campus...I say B.S. we have an open campus as well, anyone can get it and anyone can get out, of course it's a highschool not a college...but the same measures could have been taken, more so I think because IT'S A COLLEGE.

It is a tragic event. I read about a teacher who stood at the door to keep his students safe. That's true heroism. I read about several of the victims on Victim Profiles
One of the guys was a survivor of the Nazi Holocaust. I wonder if he was the guy who stood in front of the door while the students jumped out the window. There were several kinds of people, I don't think that they can say that he targeted specific people, it was probably randomly.

I can imagine that anyone could be driven to do something like that. I don't want to start on the profiling of the gun shooter, he could have turned out to be anyone.

I read that he looked calm when he was shooting the people (some of the witnesses said) and that he didn't say a word. I also read that he was a loner and that someone kept on telling him to go to counseling.

Anyways, what makes me upset is how the reporters treated the people interviewed. I watched Larry King Live last night and they asked the same people the same questions over and over. They asked things like "how did it make you feel?" or "what was going on in your head when things happened?"
Very stupid questions, I mean I would hate being asked that. If you can imagine how they feel then I dont think that you should ask.

I have mixed feelings about this. Most of them I dont really feel like jotting down. On Monday people are trying to get people around the country to wear Virginia Tech Colors. I will probably do that. I got a note (and so did many people at my school) that on Monday Morning there would be a pause of silence and that people should participate.

This event reminds me of the song "I dont like Mondays" its a really chilling song if you know what it is based off of......

the facebook you have linked is NOT the shooter fyi.

so i dont know if anybody has read yet but the note he wrote *&* a play he wrote in creative writing or something have been posted up. im sorry but if someone handed in stories like this kid did repeatedly that would be a red flag to me. kind of like what tab has been saying. ppl who have the power should report this stuff.

I think I'll continue living in the real world for now. Not the world where everyone cares about everyone and everything is swell. You don't have to accept it, but it won't change the fact that it's still gonna happen. You can't police every set of parents and counsel every kid on Earth. You can't take away every gun. It's gonna happen, like it or not.

Also, good link on the Facebook, dipshit. Not the right guy at all.

On facebook, is this really the guy? But on the profile it says Wayne, has alot of friends and actually has fun, unlike media reports that the actual shooter was a loner and stuff.

yes sir.

by the way, mind linking me to this fact?

fact 1. in America for every 1 million deaths, only 41 are from gun shot related incidents. compared to places like ... Brazil, where there is 230-some odd per 1 million. and i'll be damned if i can find the link on yahoo now.

fact 2. you suck.

oh no, im not acting like its no big deal. it bothers me when someone, like Danny, is pompous and high mighty because he lives in the glorious England where guns are forbidden.

this is a very serious matter, however, while i think you should have your opinions, leave your bullshit high and mighty demeanor some place else.

Hmm... well I'm not from the US but this actually affected me a lot. Kind of unexpected. I am off to University this fall and finding myself a little worried. Coming from a small town it seems we don't even worry about these kind of threats. I was watching the Daily Planet this morning and there are people looking into the connections to these outbursts of violence to the time of year. The tendancy for violence seems to increase as the school year goes by but April seems to be the peak and it starts to decrease in May... seems a little weird. I think that VT needed to handle the situation way differently firstly, secondly where were the people that knew this kid was disturbed?

It's the spring time fever everyone gets... it's getting warm people go crazy.

and yea.... all the reports are coming out now that everyone knew he was insane and capable of doing something like this...

but because he hadn't actually did anything yet, they couldn't do anything to him.

That's pretty true, my brother-in-law is an ER doctor and he was talking about how when we had our little heat wave a few weeks ago drive-bys and other crap like that always increase because everyone is outside.

Maya, keep in mind that somehow, Columbine got blamed on the The Matrix and Final Fantasy.

Yes, I know, it makes no sense.
