| Well, for anyone who pays attention to MTV, you should know that the Video Music Awards (VMA's for short) are coming up this Thursday, and one nominee is causing some controversy. Johnny Cash's "Hurt" Video is up for several awards, such as Best Editing, Best Direction, Best Male Video, and, the highly coveted Video of the Year. Now what several people are worried about, is that artists like Johnny Cash, who is not a part of mainstream pop, will be ignored while artists like Eminem, Missy Elliot, and 50 Cent win the awards while other artists deserve it. I believe that Johnny Cash's "Hurt" Video is by FAR the best video nominated, but will it win? What do you think? Are artists that are more popular likely to win the awards while other better, lesser-known artists are shunned? And what do you think the outcome of the Best Video category will be? The nominees are:
Johnny Cash "Hurt"
50 Cent "In Da Club"
Missy Elliot "Work It"
Eminem "Lose Yourself
Justin Timberlake "Cry Me a River"
*Sorry for droning on so long, but I have a very strong opinion on this |

| After watching the VMA's, I was a bit disappointed that 'Hurt' did not win. As for not getting recognized, mostly ever artist that plays on MTV looks up to Johnny Cash, so that isn't the issue.

| Johnny Cash totally deserved the Best Male video. Unfortunately, I doubt many people who watch MTV even know who he is. But still, I was stunned when Justin won it. What the eff? | 01-09-2003 03:11 FroMan271 | 17 posts
| he did win best cinematography in a video, but that wasnt shown on the air....and what was really screwed up was the fact that missy elliot lost best female video and then won video of the year...wtf? | 01-09-2003 03:13 Lanna615 | 614 posts
| well thats MTV for you. the crappy popular artists always win. | 01-09-2003 03:14 Cheater138 |

| I agree with Achilles, I remember hearing people mention that he should win and everything. I think he should have. | 01-09-2003 03:17 laddersup | 151 posts
| I just watched the awards! (my friend taped 'em for me) I figured he wouldn't win, since it's MTV! He definatley deserved it though. It was cool how Justin Timberlake said he looked up to Johnny Cash and that he was "sharing" the award with him. (forgot what award that was). no surprise though. | 01-09-2003 13:05 Groovejet | 5,848 posts
| I had never heard of Johny Cash before the vma's... and had never seen a video. It's a popularity contest after all, so I don't think he deserved to win just cause he's older and considered classic in the US or whereever..
Bytheway, who decides who gets the award, is it some internet-voting, or jury (sp/)? | 25-09-2003 12:37 gimo | 620 posts
| He was nominated for CMA (country music association) Video of the year too, and even though he died the nomination still stands.
Even though i alswas though that that song was kinda scarry. I can see how amazing and personal the vido is. So yeah he should still win becuse it would be vert tuching not to mention a wondeful mormial.
Sadly Brad Pasly is also up for vido of the year for Celrbrity. Well maaby he can win and then accept it in honer of jonny or somting. (in an intervew he was it was had to have a nomaniton agenst him) I think he would do somting like that becuse last year he gave is award to Little Jimmy dickins becuse he said that becuse of him that he won for his song Im gonna miss her. | 03-10-2003 01:11 Tidus8605 | 555 posts
| Hurt was actually a Nine Inch Nails song...i guess that is why its a lil scary and the fact that he was so old and was in poor health and just the overall effect he gave the video.
groove.......how dare you insult Johnny Cash like that.........he forever changed all genres of music without him music would not be near the same as it is today...he definately deserved to win...i was kinda suprised that MTV nominated him tho | 09-10-2003 02:33 foogle | 108 posts
| i liked justins video and im glad he won. I saw johnny's video too and it was the biggest load of crap I had ever layed my eyes on, next to "in da club" of course, but that's just my opinion. It was interesting that justin mentioned him when he got his award, but I think he only did it because everyone knew johnny cash didn't have a hope in the world at winning that award and justin felt sorry for him. | 09-10-2003 19:42 greenday28 | 629 posts
| "hurt" had a really good video to it should have won it |
