why does a funeral song have to be a sad song, why not something happier. I'd play Heyday by Mic Christopher

For the sun
For the light
For the ride and for the masters
We come to be kind
To be warm here and after
We've been out
But we're back
Because we're graced in these matters
And we'll rise.
And we did a little love
But we walked
We make a sound for the mesto
Make a little call to the right
to the ball and to the mast-top
And we

We fool around now and again
We're looking good
But just as friends.

And this is our heyday baby
And we're not gonna be afraid to shout
'Cause we can make our heyday last forever
And ain't that what it's all about
Oh living, in our own terrible way.

And we lack a little love, but a sign
A sign to get a little messed up
Picking up the rules, for the chimes
Making up minds and making it last us
'Cause we live alone, and now we're grown
And we know what we're after
And we'll rise

We fool around ...

And this is our heyday ...

At Your Funeral- Saves The Day

This song will become the anthem of your underground
You're two floors down getting high in the back room.
If I flooded out your house,
Do you think you'd make it out?
Or would you burn up before the water filled your lungs?
And at your funeral,
I will sing the requiem

This song will become the anthem of your underground
You're two floors down getting high in the back room.
If I flooded out your house, do you think you'd make it out?
Or would you burn up before the water fills your lungs?

And at your funeral,
I will sing the requiem
I'd offer you my hand
It would hurt too much to watch you die

And you can bet when we mourn the death of you that night (of you that night)
They'll lay me on the dinner table
I will be the pig
With the apple in my mouth
The food that celebrates your end

And at your funeral,
I will sing the requiem
I'd offer you my hand
It would hurt too much to watch you die

And at your funeral I will sing the requiem
I'd offer you my hand
It would hurt too much to watch you die

Missy - "If You Could See Me Now" by Truth. Is that it?

I have had two funerals in the past 2 months. At my uncle's, they had the bagpipes play Amazing Graze, The Dance by Garth Brooks and Taps since he was in the military. When my step brother died in a drunk driving crash, the family was too distraught to pick out anything real noteworthy.

Personally, I think "Space Cowboy" by Nsync should be one.

I'm getting it played at my funeral...

I've been to a few funerals in my time and I would have to say that the selection shouldn't be something you want but something that the deceased liked.

If you don't know then I would suggest the following two songs:

It ain't easy to say goodbye - Wynnona Judd
The Living Years - Mike and the Mechanics.

The cry of the city like a siren's song
Wailing over the rooftops the whole night long
Saw a shooting star like a diamond in the sky
Must be someone's soul passing by

These are the streets
Where we used to run where your Papa's from
These are the days
Where you become what you become
These are the streets
Where the story's told
The truth unfolds
Darkness settles in (ohh)

Shine your light down on me
Lift me up so I can see (mm)
Shine your light when you're gone
Give me the strength
To carry on, carry on

Don't wanna be a hero
Just an everyday man
Trying to do the job the very best he can (the very best he can)
But now it's like living on borrowed time
Out on the rim, over the line
Always tempting fate like a game of chance
Never wanna stick around to the very last dance (to the very last dance)
Sometimes I stumble and take a hard fall
Lose hold your grip off the wall

Shine your light down on me
Lift me up so I can see (mm)
Shine your light when you're gone
Give me the strength to carry on
Carry on

I thought I saw him walking by the side of the road
Maybe trying to find his way home

He's here but not here
He's gone but not gone
Just hope he knows if I get lost (ohhhh)

Shine your light down on me
Lift me up so I can see (mm)
Shine your light when you're gone
Give me the strength to carry on
Carry on

that song made me cry!!

I know one- Helena by My Chemical Romance. Or The Ghost Of You by MCR. I mean, with Helena, the video is about a funeral.

Helena

Long ago
Just like the hearse you die to get in again
We are so far from you

Burning on just like a match you strike to incinerate
The lives of everyone you know
And what's the worst you take (worst you take)
from every heart you break (heart you break)
And like the blade you stain (blade you stain)
Well I've been holding on tonight

[Chorus]
What's the worst that I can say?
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight

Came a time
When every star fall brought you to tears again
We are the very hurt you sold
And what's the worst you take (worst you take)
from every heart you break (heart you break)
And like the blade you stain (blade you stain)
Well I've been holding on tonight

[Chorus]
What's the worst that I can say?
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight
And if you carry on this way
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight

Can you hear me?
Are you near me?
Can we pretend to leave and then
We'll meet again
When both our cars collide?

[Chorus]
What's the worst that I can say?
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight
And if you carry on this way
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight

The Ghost Of You

I never said I'd lie and wait forever
If I died, we'd be together
I can't always just forget her
But she could try

At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I? Should I?
And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever ever...
Ever...

Get the feeling that you're never
All alone and I remember now
At the top of my lungs in my arms she dies
She dies

At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I? should I?
And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever gonna haunt me
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I? Should I?
And all the wounds that are ever gonna scar me
For all the ghosts that are never gonna catch me

If I fall
If I fall (down)

At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are
Never coming home
Never coming home
Never coming home
Never coming home
And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever gonna haunt me
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I? Should I?
And all the wounds that are ever gonna scar me
For all the ghosts that are never gonna...

I'd have both of these at my funeral.

10,000 miles - Mary Chapin Carpenter

the second i heard this song i knew it was the one. what touched me wasn't only the music and melody but also the lyrics :

Fare thee well
My own true love
Farewell for a while
I'm going away
But I'll be back
Though I go 10,000 miles

Many of these songs i can hardly see a family listening to at a funeral even if they are thinking about the good times. 'in da club' sorta songs are an example.
i reckon i'd have one of the following

Dead boys poem - Nightwish
Hear you me - jimmy eat world

or a classic like Ave Maria
