Nirvana? Dont make me laugh.......try The Mars Volta or Mahavishnu Orchestra for some hard but absurdly interesting solos......most metal solos bore the HELL out of me..

Metal solos are all the same, you just stick a load of distortion on it, go for somthing by led zeppelin or maybe pink floyd. hard, and brilliant!

I am aware that led zeppelin is kinda metal, but jimmy page is much better.

If you are up for a challege, I have a few suggestions for you and all the other guitarists. It all depends upon your skill level, how much you practice, and how long you have been playing guitar. I personally have been playing for about 8 years now.

Here are some artists in different genres if you are interested!!

Metal,
Paul Gilbert
Racer X
Michael Angelo (insane)

Classic Rock,
Hendrix
Cream/Clapton/Blind Faith

Blues,
John Mayer (Amazing guitarist)
Robert Randolf
Buddy Guy

Jazz,
Johnny A.

Acoustic,
Phil Keaggy
Tommy Emmanuel

OUT OF ALL OF THE ARTISTS TO LEARN, CHECK OUT PHIL KEAGGY. When Jimi Hendrix was asked how it felt to be the best guitarist in the world he said, "I don't know, ask Phil Keaggy" This should help, let me know what you guys think.

Buckethead "Nottingham Lace" (good luck trying to find the tabs, download it and listen to 2:35-until finished...amazing) is harder than anything posted previously...Seriously. Either that song or "Jordan" by him as well.

Depends what you like. I'll say something different than a lot of people and say stuff like Fall of Troy, even though they don't solo much, they just have hard riffs. Also, Racer X is pretty sweet. Sonata Arctica, Falconer, and Angra are great power metal choices. There are a lot of tech/death bands that have sick stuff too like Cephalic Carnage and Beneath The Massacre (good god, listen to a song and try and make that sound, seriously). Grind bands like The Great Redneck Hope, The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza and Curl Up And Die are my personal favorites though.

Hard guitar solos: check luca turilli (Rhapsody of fire) solos, some kind of classical and metal!
