When there are kids who are...say...thirteen and younger (or worse--people who act like they're thirteen and younger) on message boards, things get pretty screwed up. Let me explain:

A little kid on a board will probably start a thread like "everyone who likes green day post here!!" or "come here if you shop @ hollister!" Not that there's anything wrong with greenday or hollister, but threads like these are pretty pointless. What do they really accomplish? We'll maybe learn that Bobby likes hollister and suzie listens to green day. So what? And that's not even the wors of it.
Whoever starts this thread will probably say something like "no haters allowed." So let's pretend that a twelve-year-old girl named Cassie has found her way onto a message board. So she starts a thread called "post here if you love lindsey lohan!!!" In her post she writes, "no haters allowed." This means that if anyone doesn't like lindsey lohan and says so...well...that won't be good. So then, an 18 year old guy named Jeff, who's been on this board for a long time, sees this thread and happens to hate linsey lohan. so he writes a post in this thread saying "I disagree. I don't like lindsey lohan because...." and whatever his reason may be. Cassie gets mad that a "hater" has found his way onto her thread so she writes a replie that looks something like this: "omg this thread is for linsey lohan lovers ONLY. if you dont like her you are stupid. go away!!!!" Then jeff gets offended and then there's a huge fight between him and Cassie over whether or not lindsey lohan is a good actor/singer/whatever else she is. This turns into a whole long thread about nothing which turns into junk and wasted space.

My point: it's ok for people to feel strongly about something and they can talk about it all they want on a message board. It gets annoying, though, when they say that only people who agree with them can post. different people have different opinions and little kids usually don't understand this, which is why they shouldn't be allowed on message boards.

end of my rant.

Intentionally or not, I think the opening post was quite possibly the cleverist thing I've ever seen around here.

Look people, can't you read between the lines? This thread is for immature-under-13-haters only. No immature-under-13-hater-haters allowed.

I agree with alot of what was said initially, but the trick to these Internet fandingies is to know the community. If you want structured, reasoned debate with measured responses on a whole host of topics, there are plenty of forums out there you can find for it. LSI - with its largely teen and preteen membership - just isn't one of them. This is more the gossip/fun & games/big-brother/dont take anything seriously type of place where you come to drop silly one-liners and when drunk to take the piff out of football teams which aren't English. With the exception of a few (Shmun and a couple others), proper debate ain't here.

Incidently, if by some slim chance that was a purposeful commentary, congratulations; you've just become my new hero.

1. An age restriction would never ever work. Kids would just lie about their ages, like they do on other sites where you have to be 14. Myspace, whatever.

2. I'm sick of the silly excuse "I'm really blah blah years old, I messed up my profile". Really, it's not that hard to get it right. Who forgets what year they were born in?

3. There's morons in every age group.

Rise - There is proper debate here, you just wont find it in a General Discussion/Games/Sports category, and probably not this one either.

I agree it's annoying when people make threads like that but it's not always younger people, a lot of people do it. Anyway, I don't think it's worth ranting about. If we just never replied to those stupid threads they would give up and stop posting...hopefully.

Some people just need to find better things to do with their time than debate with a 12 year old over the talent (or lack of) of Lindsay Lohan.

Putting a minimum age on the site wouldn't change anything. People would lie about their ages, and people would still start stupid arguments.
