I'm sure everyone has heard about the girl that has sued MySpace. I, myself, am not a fan of MySpace, but I think this is really getting way out of hand.

Here is the story in more detail.

I don't understand how it is MySpace's fault because she gave out her phone number and information to a total stranger. Myspace claimed that they are dependent on the safety of their members, which, of course is understandable, but what ever happened to people being in control of their own safety? We can't have people looking out for us, and don't tell me that it's okay, because she is young. Everyone knows that the internet can be a dangerous place.

The suit alleges that MySpace has "absolutely no meaningful protections or security measures to protect underage users"

It's called protecting yourself, and whatever happened to parents? Where were the parents in this whole situation? I'm not saying the parents need to know everything that the child does, but if a kid is giving out their information to some stranger, they probably weren't raised by the best parents.

I'm sure people are going to disagree with me. But it seems that everyone is suing everyone these days, you have to look out for yourself.

I'm also not saying that the alleged man that sexually assulted her should run around free, he did lie about his age and other personal information, which is illegal to do on the internet.

Eh, now I am just rambling, it just bothers me that she's suing them for like $30 million dollars, all because she's an idiot.

Here is the story in more detail.

Anyway, tell me what you all think.

Agreed. Whether it was idiocy or naiveté, MySpace shouldn't have to pay.

I think her parents are suing, along with her.

Her fault completely. Its a well known fact that some people who use the internet are freaks so she should've remembered that. Its not MySpace's fault at all. It could possibly have reminders not to give out personal details but if she agreed to meet someone then its entirely her fault.

Myspace safety = idiot-proofing your children

When I first joined LSI, I was terrified. Terrified I even gave out my city, and my real birthday, and my real name in my profile.

It's better to be overly paranoid like I was than giving your phone number or whatever to someone you don't really know. It took me a little less than a year before I gave one person my address. And I trust them, and I trust the other people who have my home address.

Just. Don't be an idiot. Don't go online if you're stupid and 14.

Agreed. I can only imagine the first words of a girl so inane: "Me so litigious!"

My parents never knew I was part of a lyrics site until they found out I had given out the address, 8 months later.... Actually I don't think they knew for a little longer after that because I lied and said I knew her through a friend who had an online friend and met her so I knew it was safe. Somehow. I wonder if they believed me.

And that's a problem I guess. Kids are afraid to tell their parents they've met friends and they're parents can't judge for themselves. But at least I was using my head.

I find myself hoping the judge holds her in contempt and fines the crap out of her.

I don't think that myspace is responsible for the stupid things the kids do.

It brings to mind all the crazy suing that goes on in the world. I remember when my family and I were driving to Kansas for a family reunion, and we stopped in this little nothing-of-a-town to get some food and gas. I will never forget I ordered nachos from this little small diner and there was a big dead cochroach in it.

I could have sued them for all they were worth, which probably wasn't very much, but being the good person I am, I just didn't eat it, and let it go, people need to learn to let petty thing's go.

I can understand suing someone for breaking something of yours, or, I don't know, something big.

But, people suing their neighbors because their dogs pooped on their yard? I mean, come on.

YEAH, I agree. I think that if your on myspace or any other website you should know what might happen and not blame it to the website. It was your decision to give the other person your number, not the websites. Also it's not like i'm going to trust someone on the web. And if I plan meeting someone from the web in a place, i'll just take someone with me. I wont go by myself. DUH!

This is absolutely outrageous.

Her parents should be heavily fined for not observing what their child was doing on the internet.

To be honest, this case may not even get to court as the owners of myspace aren't the ones in the wrong.

Does MySpace even have $30 Million dollars? I am not good with understand how money works, so pardon my stupidity for a moment, but, they don't charge money to join, it's free, do they just get money from the advertisments they have?

I'm sure MySpace has a lot of money by now, there is tons and tonds of advertisements, there are MySpace music albums, MySpace shows. Don't know exactly how but I'm pretty sure Tom there is making a hell lotta money.

But I don't know if he's a millionaire.
