| I do get your point but your example is pretty lame and I don't agree at all. A man and a woman who loves each other can get married but two man or two woman who loves each other can't. The fact that they are homosexuel doesn't change a thing, it's still two person who loves each other ! Why can't they have the same rights as everyone else ?! Because it's "immoral" ?!? Who decided that ? Oh yeah, the bible did ! The bible was written centuries ago, it no longer has something to do with today's mentally... at least the part that says it's "immoral". | 0 @ 03-06-2006 01:26 charnese | 53 posts
| the bible is right always point blank and im not even going to argue that point
and for that example it was written centuries ago so was the constitution and america still lives by that today | 0 @ 03-06-2006 01:28 EmoRockGirl85 | 14,084 posts
| see, this is the problem....people always have to involved the bible, as if the bible is some kind of law.
remember, many people don't believe a single thing in the bible, myself included. saying that same sex marriage is wrong because the bible says so is a weak argument. | 0 @ 03-06-2006 01:29 Jay_The_Viking | 22,182 posts
| That's a really weak back-up, and this is coming from a Catholic.
Until I have learned about the reasons for homosexuality being a sin, I'm not gonna judge.
There's more than because the Bible said so. Everything we get is from Jesus' actions and his parables and Words. Give me any sin and I can give you a reason. But not for homosexuality, and until I have a good solid reason I'm not gonna be offended by a homosexual.
All I'm saying is if you're gonna represent us, give a better reason. Give THE reason. I don't know it myself, that's just the truth. | 0 @ 03-06-2006 01:33 charnese | 53 posts
| im not judging any body because i have no heaven or h-e-l-l to put no one in im jus saying that its biblical. i wouldnt not talk to someone because they are gay i know alot of gay ppl | 0 @ 03-06-2006 01:36 EmoRockGirl85 | 14,084 posts
| there is absolutely no reason that gay people cannot get married. it's not hurting anyone.
i don't give a damn about the bible. all i know is that when two gay guys get married, it has no effect on me...so let them be happy. | 0 @ 03-06-2006 01:38 Jay_The_Viking | 22,182 posts
| It's not about not talking to them. I'm talking about formulating an argument that explains WHY the Bible says so, not that it says so. And I can't give my input there because I'm by no means educated on the sexual sins yet.
You see...this is the problem with people just reading the Bible on their own without someone with an experience in theology involved.
1. The Bible translations can be wrong, and many are. Which takes things out of context.
2. People go by the words of the Scripture alone without inclusing Jesus' actions, and that causes problems because both are interconnected. Jesus gave more insight into Scriptures, and took out things that were "culture" and not "religion". If you want examples that make sense, I will give them to you.
All I'm saying is, tell me WHY the Bible says so in an argument. If not, then no one will take you seriously. I learned that from my religion teacher, he makes everything actually make sense, he can probably explain this if he were here.
I'm not saying homosexuality is wrong, and I'm not saying it's right. Until I understand, it's not my place to judge. It's NEVER my place to judge. Remember the parable about the wheat and the weeds... | 0 @ 03-06-2006 01:39 Jay_The_Viking | 22,182 posts
| Also, comparing it to other sins isn't the way to go. Because they are all different levels of severity. | 0 @ 03-06-2006 01:40 charnese | 53 posts
| everything that goes on in the world has an effect on you whether u know it or not
jus like the war ppl thought oh whatever that doesnt have anything to do with me but looks whos payiny about 3 dollars for gas | 0 @ 03-06-2006 01:41 DeathByMonkeys | 24,877 posts
| From my understanding of it, the bible only states that it's bad for two WOMEN to get married to each other, and it strongly discourages heterosexual intercourse except for procreation. I'll have to look up the actual passages, but I'm pretty sure what that says.
And anyways...like Kate...the Bible is NOT the law. the bible is a collection of fable-like stories that is meant to kinda point us in a generally good direction, not used as a set of laws. There is nothing wrong with two gay people getting married (in fact, my girlfriend just proposed to me ). | 0 @ 03-06-2006 01:44 DeathByMonkeys | 24,877 posts
| Ok, so maybe not. i could have sworn that I read that in an article somewhere.
But still. homosexuals are people too. Why should we not get to marry? | 0 @ 03-06-2006 01:44 Jay_The_Viking | 22,182 posts
| Actually, it's two men that it discourages from having sex.
I do take the Bible as law. However, that is if I can get a good reason. And to tell you the truth, when you hear this from someone who is very educated, like my religion teacher, you begin to understand why certain things aren't allowed.
But like I said. My opinion on homosexuality isn't going to be included because I couldn't tell you. | 0 @ 03-06-2006 01:48 Jay_The_Viking | 22,182 posts
| And if you so strongly feel it's wrong, the only thing you can do is pray for them. Because it is impossible to change who they are, which is why I wonder why it became a rule in the first place. Again, just no information on my part.
And by praying for others, it can't hurt, sin or not.

| Yeah, apparently my brain is still a bit overheated. i mixed it up. | 0 @ 03-06-2006 01:50 Jay_The_Viking | 22,182 posts
| Someday I will really have to ask why it's wrong. A part of me doesn't understand whatsoever. But then, a part of me never understood why a lot of other things were wrong either, before I really got into the context of it.

| Immoral is to kill, abuse, be violent, disrespectful... 2 people that love each other gettin married isn't. Since when did love become immoral? | 0 @ 03-06-2006 02:07 Jay_The_Viking | 22,182 posts
| Now from what I've read of Sodom and Gomorrah, they were trying to rape the angels dressed as men. Which is obviously a sin. But...ahh I dunno. | 0 @ 03-06-2006 02:15 TheDom | 9,053 posts
| I have a couple of questions.
charnese, do you worship Rev. Fred Phelps?
Do you go to this site everyday?
Gay people getting married doesn't hurt anybody. So far, their protests have been peaceful and it really isn't that big of a deal if they get married.
FYI, your religion doesn't run the country. If you don't like it, move somewhere else. | 0 @ 03-06-2006 02:17 Jay_The_Viking | 22,182 posts
| Oh Dom, please, that site is a sick misrepresentation of Christianity. | 0 @ 03-06-2006 02:19 TheDom | 9,053 posts
| No shit.
The sad thing is, it's an actual organization | 0 @ 03-06-2006 02:20 Jay_The_Viking | 22,182 posts
| I know, I've read about it. Ugh. I could get into it and I already typed up a bunch about it in some other thread.
The worst part is people taking it seriously. Even if God feels homosexuality is a sin, that is certainly not the way to go about it, at all, it gives everyone the completely wrong idea of what Christianity is about. | 0 @ 03-06-2006 02:29 Jay_The_Viking | 22,182 posts
| This is absolutely not Christianity. It is the sick, twisted version of it. Ugh. Makes me sick. | 0 @ 03-06-2006 02:30 DeathByMonkeys | 24,877 posts
| Ugh, is that the place that pickets soldier's funerals? They're insane. |
