| Based on the 'Name trees in different languages' thread ...
So, this is the name the name of countries in different languages game!
Rules: the first person names 2 countries
a. in english
b. in a different language
the next person ads one or two names from either countries that are already in the list, or adds different countries.
first person
England - England (german)
Sweden - Schweden (german)
second person copies the list and adds 2 names, If you add a new country, you should start a new line with the english name first.

No, that is a common mistake that foreigners make. ß and ss have never been the same. ß is another notation for sz and is historically not the same as ss at all. A simplification is that sz is used after a long vocal, whereas ss is following a short vocal. The 'nieuwe spelling' in Germany has dealt partially with that, so the correct spelling of Russia is logically Russland now. A good example is 'daß' ... the old pronounciation would be daaas, but nowadays people pronounce it short ... dass ... consequently, the correct spelling is now dass.
