| by the grace of God, I hope to.
I realize though that I haven't really ever come under that temptation though. | 29-01-2006 01:06 dudekrulz | 3,618 posts
| Abstinence...lol..what a joke.
It doesn't work and never will.
A study proved that that people deciding to be abstinent were more likely to get pregnant than people being non-abstinent. | 29-01-2006 01:15 asmaangel407 | 414 posts

| the problem is, that the people who "decided" on abstinence didn't stick with it...if they DID, there is 0 chance of them becoming pregnant or causing a pregnancy unless they are the virgin mary | 29-01-2006 01:18 Penelope_Maria | 13 posts
| I never even thought about staying abstinent until I´m married. Wouldn´t have worked for me anyways, I´m too weak.lol | 29-01-2006 01:20 dudekrulz | 3,618 posts
| Vandy, what you're saying is like discounting non-podium racers in a race because they tried and failed to get on the podium. | 29-01-2006 01:30 vandy |

| that's why I'm not against teaching birth control in school. I'm actually against the use of birth control within the context of marriage, but I don't believe in sex before marriage anyway, so if you're going to do it before that anyway, for goodness' sake, use birth control.
But in actual PRACTICE, abstincence is the best method of not getting pregnant, even teaching it as the only way in classes isn't the best way of doing things. | 29-01-2006 02:19 aussie_celesty | 3,484 posts
| Karl, you can't tell a person that their beliefs about abstinence aren't practical, because ...
For Megan, abstinence is her personal choice and she believes it is best for her, personally.
Perhaps abstinence isn't the best choice for you.
I don't believe that abstinence, only, should be taught in schools as it is less a form of birth control and more a deeply personal and spiritual choice. All forms of birth control should have equal time dedicated to them as a way, first and foremost, to educate teenagers about STD's and pregnancy. This is simply because while abstinence works for some, it doesn't work for others and those who want to experiment safely should have the knowledge to do so. | 29-01-2006 02:27 xMajinx | 13,401 posts

| Its only sex before marriage if you get married.
There was a girl online like a week ago asking if she could get pregnent her first time...people need the information about contraceptives and STDs...
I don't see a reason why I should be abstinent. Just make sure the sex is safe. (well as low risk as possible while engaging in it) | 29-01-2006 02:38 ThisDisaster17 | 163 posts

| I have never been in a position to forgo abstinence. If I was, I would. Look at how many "Christians" do it and get away without as much as a slap on the wrist from God. If there is a double standard, I want to be apart of it. | 29-01-2006 04:54 andro |

| Abstinence has never been on my agenda. My religion encourages a healthy sexuality, and abstinence isn't a part of that. | 29-01-2006 04:55 xMajinx | 13,401 posts

| Druid or something like that...I never heard of it till I "met" Phil...
I think abstinence is ok, but I don't udnerstand the Catholic religion and their war against birtth control. I say, if it is enjoyable and you can do it responsibly without harming anyone, go for it..
It's only bad when you have a school like mine with tons of pregnant f reshman and and sophomores running around because they were stupid...

| Yes, I'm a Druid. My beliefs involve getting closer to our own basic natures as well as the natural world, and as sex is a huge part of our basic instincts we don't suppress it.
The drive to have sex is one of the most powerful instincts that we have, second only to our instincts of self-preservation. In my own opinion, abstinence is something that would take a massive amount of self control to maintain (and kudos to those who want to hold off until they're married and manage it). Abstinence as a form of birth control on the other hand, is just laughable. It can't work - period. | 29-01-2006 05:21 aussie_celesty | 3,484 posts
| * offtopic : Funny, I had heard of Druidism before I met Phil.

| preaching abstince to horny teenagers is stupid...you might as well help them prevent them from getting fatal diseases, if you rpeach abstince there's more chance that they will go out and do it, because they know that it is "wrong" | 29-01-2006 15:37 kians_angel | 6,064 posts
