| I have a question. In Green Day's song Holiday the booklet says it goes pulverize the Eiffel Towers that criticize your government. Umm...maybe I'm missing something, but that doesn't make any sense. There's only one Eiffel Tower, and since when does it criticize anyone's government? I thought it was supposed to be pulverize the Eiffel Tower, they'll criticize your government which of course is a reference to the anti-Muslim anti-Afghanistan feelings following the September 11th terrorist attacks. Are the lyrics wrong, or am I missing the meaning here? |

| i think yours makes a lot more sense, but i always thought they said... "they'll pulverize the Eiffle Tower, so dont criticize your government", which kinda makes sense too, i thought, unless im insane or something, which i would believe | 0 @ 22-10-2005 05:36 CryOfTheGuitar | 69 posts
| Hear the sound of the falling rain
coming down like an armageddon flame
the shame
the ones who died without a name
hear the dogs howling out of key
to a hymn called "faith and misery"
and bleed, the company lost the war today
i beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
this is the dawning of the rest of our lives
on holiday
hear the drum pounding out of time
another protester has crossed the line
to find
the moneys on the other side
can i get another amen?
theres a flag wrapped around a score of men
a gag
a plastic bag on a monument
the representative of california has the floor
zieg heil to the president gasman
bombs away is your punishment
pulverize the eiffel towers
who criticize your government
bang bang goes the broken glass
kill all the f**s that dont agree
trials by fire setting fire
is not a way thats meant for me
just cause
just cause because we're outlaws
i beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
this is the dawning of the rest of our lives
this is our lives on holiday

| I think the eiffle towers maybe stand for something like the statue of liberty stand for liberty and justice but the fact that whatevere the eiffle towers stand for is not what the government is doing... | 0 @ 20-11-2005 17:05 alexalexalex | 2,064 posts

| with regards to holiday, this 'sedition act' in the 1796, i think it was, allowed any french or irish person to be imprisoned for even saying bad s**t about adams..
maybe they were talking about that...or the war on terror, i dont no | 0 @ 06-03-2006 06:59 avrilkiller | 19 posts
| They're simply using the Eiffel tower to represent the Frech people.
With most Greenday lyrics, I find that almost no nouns are actually being used as nouns, lol. They're all metaphors. So don't take it literally, and it makes more sense. Or just do some acid. | 0 @ 06-03-2006 07:03 blunty | 444 posts
