| When this post was first created, a girl named Baileysmummy was making tons of threads entitled "what do you think of Irish people?" or "what do you think of Italians" etc...so I (vandy) decided to create something a bit contraversial...a "what do you think of Catholics?" discussion topic. Well, it evolved into this, a huge discussion of Catholicism, so Ally changed the title to fit it when she was the lone mod in this category. I decided to add in this explanation, so that no one thought that I thought that Catholicism was a joke or a fad.
why not? it seems to be the fad lately. |

| [offtopic]k, i'm a luthern so our religon was based on martian luther saying "i don't think what the roman catholics are doing is right" so he started his own thing, so pretty much we aren't surposed to like cathollicism. it's different from us with the whole no meat on fridays durning lent thing, which is kinda weird, but other than that it's the same. the roman cathlics back in the day used to sell "indulgenced" which were prays to get there family out of pergatory(oh, we don't beleive in that either) and that crazy stuff, but they don't do that any more.
the whole point of that is supposed to resemble a small sacrifice for god. | 0 @ 31-12-2006 17:14 HoTSeXypOpUlaR | 16 posts

| just fyi, religious fanatics are the vocal minority among people who consider themselves religious. I think you'll find that in daily life, there are many Christians/Catholics/Muslims/Jews/whatever that peacefully live out their lives and let you do the same.
Or maybe I just wish it was that way, but I think that's really how it is. | 0 @ 30-01-2007 16:27 413spideyoutfit | 1,111 posts
| When I asked my Christian friend that if she has to choose between God and her parents, she said she would choose God cuz that's what the Bible said.
Tell me if you think that is kinda unexceptable? or what... | 0 @ 30-01-2007 16:40 JuiceBoxJoe | 1,705 posts
| Nah meg, your right, the vast majority of christians/catholics just live there lives passing no judgement on any other religions. Its the dipshits like mel gibson that ruin everything. | 0 @ 31-01-2007 06:05 vandy | 9,508 posts

no, it's a small penance. it used to be every friday, but evolved into just on ash wednesday & fridays during lent. it was never proposed in the Bible, but just became a gradual practice of catholicism. | 0 @ 12-06-2007 22:35 FiVEWiSHES | 187 posts

i don't think it's really that unacceptable. the Bible says that your parents were sent here by god to take care of you, and you go back to him in the afterlife anyway, so i would understand why someone who is heavily influenced by their religion would say that. if her parents are equally involved with religion, i think they'd believe that was the right choice also. | 0 @ 13-06-2007 18:13 KateKateKate | 5,285 posts
| Realistically though that would NEVER happen. Having to choose. I can't imagine how. The only "choosing" you would have to do was if your parents wanted you to do something you believed was wrong, and you said, no, and they threatened to disown you if you didn't...and why would they do that? Honestly? And if they did infringe on your morals, are they worth it? | 0 @ 13-06-2007 20:25 Samantha03 | 369 posts
| this isnt really the place to discuss religion...but if you want my true opinion, Catholics are traditional and they believe in blind faith and are not ridged like other forms of Christianity.
And since I'm Catholic, they're hot. HAHAHAHA | 0 @ 13-06-2007 20:42 KateKateKate | 5,285 posts
| That isn't true at all. I go to a Catholic school, and openmindedness is very very encouraged. | 0 @ 23-11-2007 03:02 Strawberrychild | 35 posts
| Really, I think people's opinions on Catholics depend on the Catholics they've come in contact with.
I was raised Catholic, therefore I am Catholic (reformed... but that's ok). The majority of my friends are Catholic. We're all fine and dandy and normal.
But there are some Catholics that I just... harbor great disdane for. They're really intense in their beliefs, and that's fine! Great for them!... But they shove it down people's throats and make me want to shoot them for being so ignorant and biased.
I think that's why people don't like us. There are Catholics who are just... generally hateable people... and that's actually kind of sad. |
