Gas Prices Since Katrina

I wasnt sure if a thread had been started like this before me so give me some slack here...The gas prices have gone up over 60 cents or more in the US since the hurricane katrina. The highest reporting of gas pricing I've seen so far is $5.69, in Atlanta, Ga. In my home town it is roughly $3.19 a gallon, that is up almost 1 dollar from last week. Their are shortages of gas all over the US, and I was wondering how, if any, are the other countries in North America and all over the world are being effect from this hurricane? I have heard the talk about gas rationing in the States..

the gases bein raised even more was kinda predictable i guess. Anyway, i heard gas prices were bein raised but i dont know how much it is here yet. Doesnt matter to me, i dont have to pay for gas myself.

3.19 was in michigan, if you dont have to pay for your gas, im guessing ur parents pay it for you, or you dont drive. If your parents pay it for you, you must be in a pretty well off family, my parents would pay for it until now. Its just got way to expenisive.

Yeah out in California. Haven't had to fill up since the hurricane hit, but I'm not expecting it to be that ghastly.

Liz, if you read my good-bye thread, i beleive I said I may come back and visit, I missed talking to people on a regular basis so I have come back for that reason. So here I am also in a crisis like which is going on in our country, I wanted to come on and see how people around the world were reacting to this, seeing as how most people around the world hate americans because of the iraq war.

In the UK, gas prices are more than double what you're paying. Quit complaining that gas prices are rising because you still got it cheap.

That's one thing that I can't stand... Whiney little bee-hatches who don't realise how good they've got it compared to everyone else

Andro - While you may have cheaper gas, we are stuck with the asshole president. Cut us some slack.

I understand that gas prices in all of Europe are expensive and has been for a long time. I'm not complaining, I have just been wondernig what it was everywhere else. If people in America would walk more places, we would have less fat people. Fat people scare me.

Haha Phil. I agree with you. I certainly can't whine since so far I live where the gas is the cheapest according to these posts.

eh please.. in the UK you don't have to drive half as much as we do.. there is no trains or public transportation where I live.. so we have to drive and use gas.. I don't live close to anything so a bicycle won't do me.. it's a problem here because of how much we use it.. so the complaint is justified.

Yea .. it's really expensive here.. and well almost all of the gas stations are running out .. and not expecting to get more until next week... joy.

Good point Tabitha... That just shows that the US transportation system needs an overhaul desperately. Things need to be in easy reach of where you live (to prove my point, everything that I need access to is within walking distance from my home)

In my town we have city buses running but thats only in the "downtown" area, no taxi service to speak of, no subway, nothing, Everyone in the "small town" America drives to get to where they need to go, in the mornings the highways are jammed packed, same with the roads, with people going to work and school, and I live in a small town, so that just gives you an idea about how high the demand of gas is here.

I think that that is impossible for the US to have. I mean we do in our urban areas. It works really well and a lot of people use public transportation. It's just simply impossible to do it in the rural areas though.

We have no busses or taxis here. We are the heroin capital on the USA and we don't even have a solid public transportation system!

Our gas is $1.11, and I don't think it's that bad of prices even though everyone is freaking out here.

It's not impossible for the US to have. It'll just require your President to start making long term goals on the country's infrastructure, in particular those points relating to public transportation and vehicle fuel economy
