| A: "hotter than potter" etc is rubbish. Originality is what it's all about. The next big thing is always unpredictable.
I read Eragon because my mate recommended it, and he got me onto Jonathan Stroud (who is great and lives in my home city!!!!) But it had all the pitfalls of young, major fantasy fan writing. It was full of stereotype and v derivative, although I thought the relationships between Eragon, Saphira and Brom were well done, and Murtagh was great.
Eldest was a massive improvement from a maturing writer. But if you check "fantasy books are all the same", my topic on page 1 at the mo, you'll see that Eragon commits my least fave book crimes. |
