| Even though I dont like her songs the person who has the greatest vocal range is Mariah Carey, I think | 0 @ 26-07-2005 08:38 XxNirvanaxX | 13,961 posts
| I know I shall get told that my choices aren't the best, blah blah, but this is my opinion.
I haven't heard enough voices to say for sure who the 'best vocalist' is, but some obvious choices I look up to are Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, and Aretha Franklin. I think for one to say what who the best vocalist is depends purely on taste. Their voices are so flawless to me, and Mariah and Christina sing even better live.. I'm so sick of people not singing live or doing a crappy job of it. Of course they aren't the best vocalists ever in the existance of the world, but if I was to think of a few that stand out to me, these are my choices. | 0 @ 26-07-2005 08:40 mob5ta | 5,387 posts
| technically speaking not even close.....
it seems half the people here arent that clued up about vocals
Remember, these are people OWN OPINIONS. Stop cutting them down. The purpose of a forum is to get others opinions. If you want a professional opinion on those with the greatest range ect. perhaps this isn't the greatest place. Don't put forward a question if you are not prepared for the answers. | 0 @ 26-07-2005 08:47 glow_child_glow | 1,538 posts

| Karl, i dont know why you're so hung up on octaves. Chino could have 2 for all i care, listen to there reconds, he's proven to be amazing. Team Sleep being my example, he sings sings with them. go to Deftones, he mixes singing with screaming and it just flows and sounds perfect. and i say the same with all the people i've mentioned so far. just there voices alone are capitvating. | 0 @ 26-07-2005 08:59 glow_child_glow | 1,538 posts
| best singer isnt to do with who you like, its to do witrh who is technically the best singer.this is my point, i dont give two sh*ts who you like listening to, i love Chino myself, (not so much Team Sleep though) but Deftones are amazing i think, but would i call them top tock artists of all time ? not even close * offtopic : ** post edited by moderator @ 11:16 26/07/2005 **

| i would. and not even for the fact, yeah, i think they own. Chino's voice is one in which you will never hear again. it has so many ranges and he has the ability to do it live too. thats where i give him props, he can belt the same way live as on a CD. and i wont go into the band since this is for vocalists, but none the less, he is among the best regardless of octaves or whatever else. | 0 @ 26-07-2005 09:15 Pepsi_226 | 2,030 posts

| see thats the thing, you cant disregard range, or power ot versatility....oh and dude, have you seen live in Hawaii? worst live singing ever...
Chino does have about 3.5 octaves which is a good range for a screamer.......his isnt very versatile or emotional though, he doesnt have good control either. | 0 @ 26-07-2005 09:19 glow_child_glow | 1,538 posts
| so many ranges? this doesnt really make much sense when you disregard octaves | 0 @ 26-07-2005 09:20 Pepsi_226 | 2,030 posts
| Damn, Jesse Lacey was supposed to be #1. He has about 4 octaves, maybe 5. really pretty good. | 0 @ 26-07-2005 09:21 Pepsi_226 | 2,030 posts
| i dunno, his voice wavers at the low soprano notes... | 0 @ 26-07-2005 09:22 glow_child_glow | 1,538 posts
| hmm, i doubt 5, 4 is easily possible, i haventy heard anything of him though | 0 @ 26-07-2005 09:27 Pepsi_226 | 2,030 posts
| hes got a LOT of talent, but there are just so many different emo-punk bands out there, its hard to get noticed. | 0 @ 26-07-2005 09:30 glow_child_glow | 1,538 posts
| hes probably an Alto singer though, wich means his range doesnt have to be big to get to soprano notes.....Buckley, could high Eb ABOVE a soprano HIGH C..thats fucking incredible since he was a tenor singer(lower than alto) | 0 @ 26-07-2005 09:34 Pepsi_226 | 2,030 posts
| thnx for the notes but i know all that. seriously, in the 9th grade, i was forced to do choir. | 0 @ 26-07-2005 09:38 glow_child_glow | 1,538 posts
| yeah, being in choir means you know Jeffs highest note????...or that Lacey is alto? | 0 @ 26-07-2005 09:39 Tyrannical_King | 5,163 posts

| Maybe not that one Jesus, but it looks to me like your opinion rules all others (in your mind of course.) That's all I'm saying.
As for greatest vocalist I'll have to go with some current ones that I think are good.
Matthew Bellamy
Maynard
Cedric Bixler
Isaac Brock
The girl from Arcade Fire is pretty good too |
