basically, just be creative, like you said...

pick a song that you can easily make up lyrics for, and make sure they fit the original format of the song... if you want somewhere to start, check out Dekar and Crazy Joe's parody's here on the forum, they are all quite good.

I've written 2 parodies for this site, and it's not exactly my talent, but I have fun writing them. what you need to do is figure out a song that's easy to write a parody to, like 'Sk8er Boi' and then think of a funny idea that you add in the song. then re write each verse so it kind of sounds a bit like the song but is distinctively different. as said before, let the creativity flow. you can check out my parodies, one for 'Sk8er Boi' which I changed to 'Fruity Dude' (don't ask!) and one for 'Girl all the Bad Guys Want' by Bowling for Soup, which I changed to 'Chimp all the Bad Guys Want.' check em out somewhere on this forum (should be here somewhere). hope this helps.

Myself, I just get an idea for something, and I work on it. The song I posted here just a few minutes ago, Crappify, was created just because it was something funny, since "crappify" is a word I created a while back. I generally use it when referring to the quality of image files when converted from BMP to JPG/GIF/etc., which, since they became crap, they were "crappified". :-) Anyway, I've drifted off. The main thing is, get some kind of inspiration for something, then start writing the lyrics. When creating them, I at least try to keep the amount of syllables in my parody the same as in the original version, so it's a bit easier to sing. Those are my tips. I hope they help.

I just got a lil question myself, an figured this wud b the best place 2 ask as i dont wanna make an entire topic myself like, but when writing a parody is the entire idea 2 make the song funnier or is it just changed to fit a certain mood or situation like?
Really might give it a go sumtime but it was only recently wen i came across these pages that i knew what a parody was :$

Misheard lyrics are a great way to start out. Take a song like "Bad Moon On the Rise" by Credence Clearwater Revival. You could make something good out of that.

Also, just listen to the song and see what it reminds you of.
