| I think that America as a country tries to act like the king if the world, Mr. Bush really wants to be the one who's always right. But the american people i have talked to are like all others i've talked to, some aren't very nice, but most of them are (: | 0 @ 03-11-2006 22:15 Byebona | 9 posts
| USA clean upp all the mess in the world. its the only country who dares to something about the terrorism. But they think also they are above all the other countries in the world and they do what ever they want. some day it will happen something terrible to USA. trust med on that thing! | 0 @ 04-11-2006 00:27 LinkinLawg | 19,068 posts
| the USA is fine, it would be great if Bush got kicked out of office. | 0 @ 04-11-2006 03:16 _AdreNaliN_ | 2,668 posts
| I was actually just wondering the other way around.. what people from the USA have to say about the rest of the world around them. Cause you know, it does exist. But anyway, I'll keep myself from getting into that!
Anyway, to answer the question - the US is a nice place, with some nice people. Every place has its flaws, but some just have more than others =) | 0 @ 30-11-2006 13:08 Velchor | 21 posts
| Some people talked about the fatness, that everyone says all americans are fat. I dont think so. There are many people that are "sickly" fat, but so there are skinny people.
I think the government, president and everything is fooling the citizens and most of them (or many of them) can't see how things really are.
Geographics should be thought more in schools. Once i met an american who didn't believe that finnish exists. She thought our mother tongue was also english. Everywhere things aren't the same as in America. Luckily.
Many american people think Finland is part of Russia. Many don't believe when they are told that Russia is not molesting us. That we live in peace.
So often americans seem to think that everywhere else it's poor and unhappy: they want to help the nations from the "oppression". Though, i dont think this is the ordinary americans fault: rather Bush's and the information office of the country..
Well, what i wanted to say, was that i think americans are fooled but that doesnt make them stupid or fat or anything.
Still, i dont think there's any defence for the fact that usa has attacked to many countries.
History has proved us, that America comes and fights where ever is war: but there's never war in their own country.
I just don't trust in the government or anything, americans might be cool though. | 0 @ 01-12-2006 04:23 Schatzi | 21,193 posts

But to base your feelings of an entire country on a few citizens? Absolutely ridiculous.
Practice what you preach.
I do, thank you. I've never once bashed another country & especially not on this forum. It's usually helpful to say this to someone that's actually being a hypocrite.

| 3 heather.
The whole 'lets bash on the US' fix is annoying anymore, most of the people that harp about how bad of a place the US is... are those that know nothing of the country. Yet it feels good to make your own home place look all glorious when you hear about bad things in other places.
I think the US is just more full of media ... everything that goes on here get's publicized internationally.. or president chooses to make a fool of himself all the time on national television.. everyone thought it was the 'land of riches and glory, freedom and sound mind'... so we have more and more immigrants everyday.... the country is without an stable identity.
Everyone keeps saying the US needs to remove itself from other countries.. 'keep to your own'.. but they don't realize that the US is these other countries... It's the United States, and at the same time it's cultures, religions, races, languages... maybe not united .. but forced together on one land.
Sure there are immigrants to every country... but the US has been bred from a mut race... the worlds melting pot.
Gwyneth Paltrow made a comment that in England they sit over dinner and talk about interesting topics... they work to live, while in america we live to work... sit at dinner and discuss politics, work, hardships. Ha, try living in a place where everyone else in the world is coming and stealing the jobs you could be working. Companies are moving factories out of the country to have cheaper labor..... more and more immigrants come in everyday, even where I live people can't get housing any longer because of the hispanic population.. in Gainesville, GA the hispanics outnumber Americans atleast 4 to 1... prolly 10 to 1 in some areas.
Sure even the first settlers where immigrants themselves ... running over the Native Americans that lived here before us... but I'm not a pilgrim in a little bonnet and long skirt... I can't justify the sins of the 'forefathers'... so they settle out this place, make a 'better way' .. and everyone else wants to join. So I can't really say that it's America that has brought this 'on itself' .. but I think it's more the fault of the people coming in every day escaping the faults of their own countries.

| I think everyone has jumped on the "Hate the United States bandwagon". Most of these people in here have probably never even been here once in their life. They probably just hear about it on TV or from other fellow LSI members. It does annoy me when people bash America and have never been here. I never bash another country unless I have been there, If I haven't been there, I don't feel that I'm entitled to an opinion. | 0 @ 06-12-2006 20:00 downandout | 1,517 posts

| Oh wow, a topic all for me.
I believe the average American, lacks everything a normal human being has. And I'd like to put out a few really stupid things aboutAmerica:
- Brag about being first to the moon - not as if anyone else was trying were they, it doesnt matter who comes first when you're own your own..
- War. Supposidly saved Britain in WW2.. lol okay, if you're not in the fight from the start ya not in the fight at all. That is a fact. Americans attempts on their own have been far from glorious aint they, Vietname, the only reason we didnt help you is because we wanted our war films to remain cheerful. We helped you in the Gulf and we all know why, undisputed world war champions, havent lost a war in a thousand years. It's a nice record
- Caught completely by suprise.. 2 years into a global war, by the Japanesse, and of course the good ole saying of 'an eye for a family generation' America nuked Japan.. twice.. o deer.
- Start a war on Terrorism, now this actually does sound like a good idea.. except, if America didnt fund the IRA for 30 years, we wouldnt have any terrorists full stop.
- Having an.. American Dream, now what confuses me is what is the American Dream? Because we the British dont have a dream, mainly because were awake. Living in a life of luxury? Pff, bunch of poofs.
- Laws. Now gay marriage is illegal in some states, which is, I'm just not gonna step on that stone. Guns being legal? You're asking for trouble here aint ya really. Makes no sense to me, I hear its the American culture, what a shoot a person for delievering a newspaper. Gooden mate.
- Money. Richest/wealthiest country in the world, not envy in the slighest. It's just if a Britain fell off a ladder, he'd be hurt as would an American, get up or go to hospital and that'd be it - sorted. An American, would jump off a ladder, fall and hope to claim the compensation.. pretty dumb yes.
- Language. Butchering many British things to be honest, first concern definately language.. gray, grey. English is a natural language, it forms naturally in the brain. A great language, a great British language and you've butchered it very horribly. Butchered many sports and claim they're yours, there is a reason American Football, is called American Football. Because most uninfluenced by America, countries know it as that.
- Holidays. Labor day, for a start it's labour and it's bank holiday. If its the same thing. Again not my main concern. Thanksgiving, where you thank the pilgrims for colonising America. Funny you got to America, on a British ship by a British bloke. And when the Americans, not the British, Americans then slaughtered the pilgrims and forced them off their own land. Betrayal can?
Cant pick out many good things that is specifically American in all honest. Now please enlighten me with your hate =3 | 0 @ 06-12-2006 20:32 Dagor | 34,019 posts
| Most of these people in here have probably never even been here once in their life.
The more important it is that the image that you are presenting to the outside world is a positive one. And to be honest, it sucks balls ... the image that the US presents (through its politics, several politicians and loads of media coverage) is one of arrogance and ignorance. A mindless, patriotic speech of its leaders might work for us-citizens .. on the rest of the world it works like a red cloth. But that is the point .. either your leaders aren't smart enough for some diplomacy or they don't give a sh*t about what the rest of the world thinks | 0 @ 06-12-2006 20:38 Dagor | 34,019 posts
| oh about image .. it is also formed in europe by the american tourist who doesn't speak a word of the native language of the country he is in, but expects that everyone understands his broad dialect .. also not the most positive thing. | 0 @ 06-12-2006 20:54 BynnaD | 2,845 posts
| All of what I said is America/ns is in general, which includes everyone. =) | 0 @ 06-12-2006 20:57 Pandora | 22,882 posts
| hate isn't a way to carry out a debate, just because thats the angle you choose... doesn't mean that others have to sink to your level of thought.
I believe the average American, lacks everything a normal human being has.
how many americans do you know to this date, so that you actually have the means to come up with a general average american theory?
- Brag about being first to the moon - not as if anyone else was trying were they, it doesnt matter who comes first when you're own your own..
The Soviet Union had a program orbiting the moon.. and had space probes that landed on the moon, America was just the first.. and only I believe, program to actually put a person on the moon... there is nothing wrong with bragging over success.
.. ehh war, you can't blame the people of america for everything their government does... if you know anything you know how the american people felt towards all those there were in vietnam if anything else to prove differently the opinions.
- Having an.. American Dream, now what confuses me is what is the American Dream? Because we the British dont have a dream, mainly because were awake. Living in a life of luxury? Pff, bunch of poofs.
the american dream was the 'idea of a better life'... I think this whole idea was publicized more by the people trying to get here, than the people that were here, take that up with them.
- Laws. Now gay marriage is illegal in some states, which is, I'm just not gonna step on that stone. Guns being legal? You're asking for trouble here aint ya really. Makes no sense to me, I hear its the American culture, what a shoot a person for delievering a newspaper. Gooden mate.
america has been war ridden since the very beginning ... an unsettled land for the taking by these new settlers... they realize that wow, native americans are here... they fight .. and fight.. it's been a struggle since the beginning .. a fight for 'freedom from the mainland' then a 'fight for land to live on'... guns are apart of the american history... many places/familys/cultures in the US still live off the land, hunting and killing animals for food. I know even in the South where I live, hunting season is HUGE, people store up food and eat from it for the year... its engrained in our culture.. you can't just expect them to up and outlaw guns.. what sort of chaos would that cause?
- Money. Richest/wealthiest country in the world, not envy in the slighest. It's just if a Britain fell off a ladder, he'd be hurt as would an American, get up or go to hospital and that'd be it - sorted. An American, would jump off a ladder, fall and hope to claim the compensation.. pretty dumb yes.
still a general statement, like I said before.. I'm sure there are those in every bunch.
- Language. Butchering many British things to be honest, first concern definately language.. gray, grey. English is a natural language, it forms naturally in the brain. A great language, a great British language and you've butchered it very horribly. Butchered many sports and claim they're yours, there is a reason American Football, is called American Football. Because most uninfluenced by America, countries know it as that.
.. have you forgotten where the first americans actually came from? it's not like you move to a different land mass and suddenly make up your own language, and everything to go with it. You take what you know, and you add to it as you will... you can't be so ridiculous to think that if you left out of your country to another island or something.. that you would do everything completely different from your homeland.
In case you didn't know, Labor Day isn't just an 'american thing'.. There are Labour Days in May, October and September .. in other countries as well, it's also referred to as 'May Day'... it's all the same basic concept.. at 'workers holiday'. And as for thanksgiving... its a holiday of 'thanks' related to the harvest of autumn.... its considered the same as the harvest festivals in the UK and Germany. It's not a 'thanks for colonizing america'... it was a thanks in general... the first was a thanks to the indians that helped teach the early settlers how to live on the new land, and it developed from there.

| I dont have long so I'll make this quick. I dont know any Americans personally thank Christ.. and alot of television comes from America, seeing them talk, listening to what they're talking about gives a great explaination. Fahrenheit 9/11 wassit documentry film? Watch that, with the same views as me, you'll find it very entertaining.
Just like to point out, I have not once mentioned and meant it, Britain is better than American, you're just worse than us.
Thanks the pilgrims for showing you how to live, by rewarding them with a bullet in the head? Sounds like a date.
American dream for a better life, and the life of luxury? In all honesty, there's virtually no difference in that at all is there.
Yes, American influenced countries.
Well I can speak for Britain, but if guns were made legal, chaos would be caused. And you're saying if guns were made illegal there'd be chaos? lol, it's like putting a 3 inch nail in a 3 inch hole.
American isnt a language, you speak English. Which you butchered and made into.. English, which isnt English.
Nothing wrong about bragging for success okay, 6 billion dollars whatever to send a couple of blokes to the moon, float about and reinforce our already confident minds there's no martains there. As I said, it doesnt matter who comes first when you're on your own.. Complete waste of time. Which is why Britain didnt bother, nothing up there to make part of the Great British Empire and no-one to give it back too. | 0 @ 06-12-2006 21:15 Bucephalus | 2,109 posts

I stopped after Danny said we were the only ones racing to get to the moon. Lol I laughed. | 0 @ 06-12-2006 21:26 Pandora | 22,882 posts

| Bragging is also such an american thing ... in Europe it is considered to be "not the fine way".
If you have success, you can mention it once and again at the right moment in a decent way. Putting up a show around it is considered to be bad taste.

| Wow...just...wow.
I am amazed that you (Danny) could be ignorant enough to make broad generalizations about ALL Americans. Of course there couldn't be one person who bucks the trend.
There are many things about the U.S. American culture that are at odds with my morals--sadly, many things that I practice. I will not deny being a hypocrite. It's kind of an inner controversy for me, some of the things I do, but I have to say I'm just not perfect yet. I'm working on it.
However, to just assume that we all go about our merry way, smiling and loving George Bush, or whatever the hell you want to think, good lord, that's just bull$#*%. I'm not some stupid sheep. Or at least, I try not to be. And if you think for one minute that YOU have somehow risen above the culture that YOU were born into, or that it's somehow simple and easy, guess again. | 0 @ 07-12-2006 10:31 Dagor | 34,019 posts
| And if you think for one minute that YOU have somehow risen above the culture that YOU were born into, or that it's somehow simple and easy, guess again.
That is actually a very good point. Even if you were born into an imaginary culture that eats people, and all the world would despise you for that, you just can't break out from it.
I think the problem is somewhat that americans deep down inside like to be loved in the world too. Or be taken as an example of how good they and their structures are. And that is what is clashing with reality. They are just another country in the world and a lot of things that they are proud of (like "democracy" and "welfare") should really be questioned. It's a country based on money ..
Americans should stop thinking in terms of supremacy and stop interfering with international politics that much. | 0 @ 07-12-2006 14:57 Pandora | 22,882 posts
| Americans should stop thinking in terms of supremacy and stop interfering with international politics that much.
That's generalizing though... it's the american government, and contrary to popular belief, the 'americans' really have no control over that. Sure the first person to start a rebellion against the government I would be on the wagon to help... but it's just a complicated situation.
It's like blaming the Chinese for what their government puts them through... or Cuba .. you know?
I think the problem is.. everyone's so easy to 'beat up on' the americans and their way of life, that we have to live in a constant state of 'defense'.
And C's always cocky, especially in reply to the foolishness of someone else... it's not so much an 'american thing'.
