| all i have to say about our president is that he obviously doesnt suck as much as people think if he got re-elected. this is not to say that he is my favorite president but i guess more people like him than have liked kerry or gore. and as far as bush cheating his way into office, i believe that accusing bush of that is just being a sore looser. the president of the united states of america does not cheat his way into office | 0 @ 14-05-2005 05:03 grimley | 319 posts

| What I know about the USA:
1. has the highest crime rate in the world
2. has one of the highest rates of obesity/overweighted-ness (not that EVERYONE is fat, just over 150 MILLION americans are fat)
3. many, many good bands have come from the US
4. your president is sort of...stupid....
5. many good shows have come out of the US (E.g. the simpsons)
6. firearms are still perfectly legal there (see point 1)
7. you have a MASSIVE olympics team, therefore you win the medal counts at all the Olympic Games
and lastly
7. I like Canada a lot better

| I live in the United States and I personally do not like it here and am movin to Europe as soon as I can.
Now, instead of saying things like "I hate American because you're all fat" or "I hate America because your president is stupid and he represents all of you". Think about how that makes your country, wherever you are from, look. It doesn't make you look like the supreme country if you're so ignorant. While it's true many people are obese, it doesn't mean you can say we're all like that. What gives you the right to crticize people with a disorder, whether it be over-eating or anorexia? I have seen a lot of the foods served in other countries, for example the UK. Extremely fattening. You can think that many people in the US are this or that, but please have an open mind when talking to someone you have opinions about before meeting them.
Like I said I am hardly defending the US, because I dislike living here and I hate when people run around saying "yup, it's the best durn country there is". There's nothing wrong with saying that I guess, but it just seems a little but elitist to me. And lots of Americans make jokes about other countries, which fumes me. So nobody is perfect. Just please have an open mind. | 0 @ 17-05-2005 12:05 Just_Jamie | 12,874 posts
| I just wanted to comment on something real quick...
I've lived in Germany for the last 8 months...while it's true that a fewer number of Germans are fat than Americans, the ones who are, are REALLY fat - meaning the fat Germans are fatter than the fat Americans, there just aren't as many of them. | 0 @ 17-05-2005 16:04 SantistaGirl | 72 posts

| What I think about US? I don't know what to say, cause I've never been there. I don't know what are all those people like, I have only all that shit and good what I have heard.
1) In movies and other, the people seem really stupid(Days of our lives, O.C or mean girls and other disgusting teen-ager lovecomedys...). But I hope that they are only those people what americans want to show for other world, there must be some people who are clever, cause I know some good bands from there.
2)All that pop is hurting my head.
3) I don't know what's whit thise peole who voted Bush cause he want's "to have U.S what we want". Is it so important, don't u understand that whit someone like Bush can happen terrible things, and they still voted him after destroying Irak! Destroy all other peoples home and life and country to have "U:S what we want". Maybe I'm just talking shit cause I really don't know lot about this
There must be nice people in there, but those side of U.S what I have seen makes me wanna scream. Or maybe this is just that I'm european.
Anyway, I'd liked to see thread about "what not-europeans think about europeans?" or "What americans think about europeans?". | 0 @ 20-05-2005 09:58 quynhtrang_hpvn | 140 posts
| the only thing i hate about US is the goverment, especially bush
one of my teacher said he's more dangerous than Binladen (or how u spell) | 0 @ 24-07-2005 23:13 ZamboTheFirst | 229 posts
| I love this subject! Im American but I have met sooooo many foreigners here from all kinds of countries, so i kinda get an Idea about how it must compare. The United states, in my opinion, has many good qualities ..........(many opportunities for those who have a good backbone, Our Music rocks, alot of commodities i think, even for the poor, we have a very comphortable environment, sometimes too comfortable to where our people get fat, we are a-traditionalists which helps in developing new Ideas, I mean theres alot and I can go on forever. And for a person comming here with the motivation that many of US dont have, its easy to become successfull, if you know how to play the ropes)......................
...But there are very BAD qualities too....( This is a very cold and superficial country, Young people here are EXTREMELY immature, maybe because our government treats them as such, and its probably one of the few places where its actually cool to be Dumb, (Im no exeption)....Our social system compares with that of....Zimbabwe? there is alot of ignorance, everywhere, and its completely O.K. and even cool. This is close to a police state, the government has aloooot of control over us, as they always have. everything here is turned into a lucrative business, how many driving tickets does the average american pay in a lifetime? Its an "Eat or be Eaten" type of society. let me stop here. Most americans wont admit these things to ourselves and we always assume things are always worse in other countries because we are constantly being told that. I visited Spain last year and I now I want to move there, Permanently!) | 0 @ 24-07-2005 23:34 carole | 27,152 posts
| no offense to the rest of u guys, but what ZamboTheFirst just posted was the first clever and objective post i've seen in this thread...
i usually purposely avoid these threads or make fun of them (i know i have), but i just wanna say i am glad that someone whos actually lived in the US is able to say something like "Most americans wont admit these things to ourselves and we always assume things are always worse in other countries because we are constantly being told that."
the day the American will stop lookin at themselves thinkin "we are the best no matter what, ive been told so, so it must be true", we'll have made a great improvement. sadly, i dont see that coming anytime soon. | 0 @ 26-07-2005 13:49 ZamboTheFirst | 229 posts
| Thanks Carole! ...It seems that foreigners have a much more objective and many times true opinion of the U.S. ...I dont think the world hates us, but the way things are going it wont last forever. ......I dont want people to get me wrong, I love this country for all the good qualities I see in it. after all it is my homeland. Its sad however, that we are not using our influence in better ways. ...and its sad that we have an illiterate cowboy for a president (no offense Texans). He does NOT represent the average american to me. and who wants a JOE BLOE for a president anyways?.....Prior to 9/11 people here were moving in the right direction, becoming more worldy and advanced. But republican ideals have flooded our minds are now we are "God bless ONLY america, wearing patriotic pins, Chirac is a fag, Spanish are fags for deserting us, Moslems are heathen...WE are the only civilized nation in the world.." ....Its funny that after 200 years of "separation of church and state" Our president sounds more like a Priest (ableit, a really bad one). America is a very varied country with very conservative, ignorant (and powerfull) pockets, as well as some of the most liberal segments of the world, after all we pioneered the modern age. yet we all are somehow unmistakeably american. .... A perfect stage for a revolution. but that wont happen, our government (republicans and democrats alike) have too much control over us. (In order to protest or rally anywhere, you must submit an official request or petition, and IF it is accepted, it will only be on thier terms, or be arrested! or worse, peppersprayed!!! ) Is it like this elsewhere? ok guys, this is getting long....... I have three words for you....."Read my Lips"...."Watch Farenheit 9/11"! (ok, that was six) ....Its a great insight on how our government REALLY works (Republican AND democrat!) ...It'll scare you!

| People in America think of Arabic cultures as extremely different than ours (I think they are) but not necesarily as poor or low lifes. More like hostile and violent, very religious, not to be trusted and treating women very badly. the do not see the different countries, they see Arabs as the same. very ignorant, but Americans revel in being ignorant about other cultures. All Asians are chinese, All Spanish speakers are Mexican and poor, All Europeans have bad hygene. need I say more? | 0 @ 31-07-2005 04:21 rock67angel | 1,416 posts
