In this thread I'll describe the new LSI penalty system. LSI has grown into an enormous community during the last couple of years. Thousands and thousands of users comminucate each day through the forum, chatroom and messenger system. Between all users who come to this site with good intentions there are always a those who come here just to get attention in a bad way, insulting others or try to mess up this site. LSI runs a hard policy on these group of people, misbehaviour results in a ban of the members account.
Untill today the banning is done by hand. But this method is outdated, for both the visitors and moderators a clearer system is required. And here it is, the penalty system.
Ok, what is it? Moderators can rate forum posts and chatroom messages for violations: rude language, spam, insults, etc. Each of these violations has a different weight. If a moderator rates your post on one or more of these categories, you'll get penalty points. When you get more points then the limit, you'll get a temporary ban. Each day the points become lower again and when the total is below the limit you can login again.
How much you're away from the limit is mentioned in the 'penalty level' on your profile. The level is expressed in a percentage how much you're away from a temporary ban.
NOTE: The actual ban is not enabled yet. So it is possilble your level is above 100% while you can still login. The ban part is still under construction. |

| On a personal level, I'm in no rush to penalise every post I see for something, and our penalising categories are completely clear - so I don't have to think much! Woohoo! | 0 @ 13-03-2005 17:32 EmoRockGirl85 | 14,084 posts

| I dont like this system....

| Well i guess its a good idea. Hopefully it'll stop popular people getting away with murder | 0 @ 13-03-2005 18:04 myangel | 2,616 posts
| I like the idea but I'm a bit worried about mods who have a grudge against certain people being unfair. Also what people post may come out in an offensive or argumentative manner which they may not intend at all and this could result in them getting points that are not fair.
But I trust Dek's word that if someone is abusing their power that he'll sort them out .... unless of course Dek doesn't like you .... then you're screwed | 0 @ 13-03-2005 18:04 Dagor | 34,839 posts

| it's really a very uptight thing ... like now we are prey for the moderators or what? And with this high number of pretty controversely discussed mods??
