In this thread I'll describe the new LSI penalty system. LSI has grown into an enormous community during the last couple of years. Thousands and thousands of users comminucate each day through the forum, chatroom and messenger system. Between all users who come to this site with good intentions there are always a those who come here just to get attention in a bad way, insulting others or try to mess up this site. LSI runs a hard policy on these group of people, misbehaviour results in a ban of the members account.
Untill today the banning is done by hand. But this method is outdated, for both the visitors and moderators a clearer system is required. And here it is, the penalty system.
Ok, what is it? Moderators can rate forum posts and chatroom messages for violations: rude language, spam, insults, etc. Each of these violations has a different weight. If a moderator rates your post on one or more of these categories, you'll get penalty points. When you get more points then the limit, you'll get a temporary ban. Each day the points become lower again and when the total is below the limit you can login again.
How much you're away from the limit is mentioned in the 'penalty level' on your profile. The level is expressed in a percentage how much you're away from a temporary ban.
NOTE: The actual ban is not enabled yet. So it is possilble your level is above 100% while you can still login. The ban part is still under construction. |

| umm I mean take away your posting privaledges without getting banned? | 0 @ 13-03-2005 16:02 Dekar | 36,095 posts
| There's a threshold to the penalty points. You go over that threshold, you're banned. How many penalty points you have determines the length of your ban. No less, no more than that. | 0 @ 13-03-2005 16:03 EmoRockGirl85 | 14,084 posts
| so...only moderators can rate these posts?
does that include chat ops?
i'm still confused about this whole system. but, it sounds like it would reduce the amount of permanent bans? | 0 @ 13-03-2005 16:03 the_Apocalypse | 14,257 posts
| But what if a certain mod hates me, that mod can just go rate every post i made and get me banned for a looooong time... | 0 @ 13-03-2005 16:04 C4L | 21,391 posts

| oh ok so you can't get to a certain number and then your posting privledges away and if your posting privledge number goes down you start to post again you eventually get banned the next time you reach that mark? | 0 @ 13-03-2005 16:08 C4L | 21,391 posts
| why does it keep giving me errors when i click this thread....?
anyways..what's with the yellow cards? | 0 @ 13-03-2005 16:10 Dekar | 36,095 posts
| Once you get over a certain number of points, you're banned. That's it. Then the number of points goes down each day, until you're unbanned. There's nothing more to it than that.
Arno, if anyone abuses the penalty system, report them to me and I'll fire them and remove all the penalty points given.
Unless it was me doing it. | 0 @ 13-03-2005 16:10 EmoRockGirl85 | 14,084 posts
| jeez...i leave for a week, and all these changes are made. i can't believe we have private chat now! | 0 @ 13-03-2005 16:11 Ray | 2,239 posts
| The yellow card notes that the post has been penaltilized... is that a word!?
Who gave me a penalty... ow I did | 0 @ 13-03-2005 16:12 EmoRockGirl85 | 14,084 posts
| no one answered my question about the chatroom messages. how is the chatroom going to work? is it up to the ops to rate those messages? | 0 @ 13-03-2005 16:13 Ray | 2,239 posts
| The chatroom will be hooked up this same system soon. First thing to do is testing this system here on the forum. | 0 @ 13-03-2005 16:13 C4L | 21,391 posts
| lol!
ooh ok..and the +5 means..what?
how do the numbers next to the card work? | 0 @ 13-03-2005 16:13 EmoRockGirl85 | 14,084 posts
| alright, neat

| ooh wait, does it only gone on one post then?

| Wow, smarrt. And scary. | 0 @ 13-03-2005 16:21 the_Apocalypse | 14,257 posts
| Ok, so what will the % be you need to get banned for a couple of days? 100%? And how many points is that? 100?
And does it work with an average? If not, how fast does the number go down? | 0 @ 13-03-2005 16:22 C4L | 21,391 posts
| no becasue it says ray had 100% when he has +5
and now it's somehow +10 (why'd that change?)
and it's still 100% | 0 @ 13-03-2005 16:23 boxblink_182 | 433 posts
| What are you going to do about favoritism? Mods should not be the only people allowed to rate posts/threads. | 0 @ 13-03-2005 16:23 the_Apocalypse | 14,257 posts
| That's why I'm asking *cough*dumbass*cough*
And how many points do I get for that? I wanna keep score who'll cross the line first | 0 @ 13-03-2005 16:23 C4L | 21,391 posts
| ok now +60 = 600%
| 0 @ 13-03-2005 16:24 Dekar | 36,095 posts
| We're given a list of penalties we can give to any particular post. We pick the appropriate ones and that's it. The system does the rest on its own. |
